Ep 37: Which Direction is the NRHA Headed? 2026 Rule change proposal review and discussion.
Episode 37
The NRHA has 40 rule proposals on the table for 2026. We review and discuss each rule and explore the effects for the sport and association.
This episode is for anyone who watched the futurity live, hasn’t watched the futurity yet, or wants to better understand how the judging system affects the sport, the competition, and the future of reining.
“A good set of horses with an incredibly experienced set of officials … made for the best futurity I’ve ever seen.” – Jody Brainard.
Score displays, technicalities and tracing technology are a few of the new things that elevated the 2022 NRHA Open Futurity. With over 16,240 maneuvers to evaluate, decisions made in the first go set the stage for the 2nd go and finals. Tenured experts Brian Dygert and Jody Brainard analyze the competition and judging at the Open Futurity. They visit topics like spread scores, percent of differentials, and spreads on runs like Matt Mills and even Shawn Flarida’s winning run in the Level 4 Finals.
Both hosts have over 35 years of experience of judging and monitoring including at the highest level of the NRHA competition. They hit topics like improvements needed to the judging system, the quality of horses, and the tools our judges have (and may or may not be using).
