Analysis of the NRHA Open Reining Futurity 2022 Scores and Competition

“A good set of horses with an incredibly experienced set of officials… made for the best futurity I’ve ever seen.” – Jody Brainard.   Score displays, technicalities and tracing technology: a few of the new things at the 2022 Open Futurity at the National Reining Horse Association.   With over 16,240 manuever evaluation decisions made in the first go, tenured experts Brian Dygert and Jody Brainard analyze the competition and judging at the Open Futurity, visiting topics like spread scores, percent of differentials, and spreads on runs like Matt Mills and Shawn Flarida’s winning run in the Level 4 Finals.   

Both hosts have over 35 years of experience of judging and monitoring, including at the highest level of the NRHA and hit topics like improvements needed to the judges system, the quality of horses and the tools our judges have (and may or may not be using).  

Moderated by Chelsea Sutton of the ConsultMent Agency, this episode is a for anyone who watched the futurity live, didn’t watch the futurity yet, and want to better understand how the judges system effects the sport, the competition and the future of our sport of reining.
